Mitsui Kinzoku Act Corporation 2016 Medium-Term Management Plan

1. Management Principles

It is with pleasure that we announce that the Company has formulated the 2016 Medium-Term Management Plan, defining the specific steps to be taken in the period from FY2016 through FY2018 aimed at achieving our corporate vision in ten years in pursuit of our Management Principles: "Contribute to society and achieve perpetual growth by respecting, nurturing and utilizing people and creating good products through superior monozukuri (manufacturing) capabilities."

2. Business Domain

The Company specializes in side door latches and strikers for automobiles. In recent years, automobiles have undergone a series of evolving changes, involving auto manufacturers in intensified competition with respect to the development of alternative fuel vehicles and automated driving systems in view of the standard for the next generation vehicles. However, we believe that the basic significance regarding the operability of a vehicle door remains unchanged even today.
The Company has many years of experience developing technologies in stamping presses, injection molding, and latches and latchets, offering superior performance in terms of door closing operability. As a manufacturer of side door latches for automobiles, the Company has established an unrivaled position in the global market, making it difficult for its competitors to enter the market because of the high government standards of safety requirements for the products in various countries, which demand sophisticated technologies to meet the performance requirements.

3. Vision in Ten Years

We will strive to grow as a company that will always be highly appreciated by our customers, offering products and services focused on Safety, Comfort, and Amazing Performance on the strengths of our monozukuri capabilities that have been developed over many years. We will, in essence, strive to invoke a "Wow, ACT!" reaction from our customers.
The Company has a long track record of achievement in developing and marketing zero-torque latches, power sliding doors and other cutting-edge products ever since it operated as the Automotive Parts and Components Division of Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd. or Ohi Seisakusho Co., Ltd. We have succeeded in developing overseas markets ahead of our competitors, establishing a manufacturing plant in the United States in the 1980s.
Inheriting a front runner's "DNA" in business, the Company aims to achieve consolidated sales of 200 billion yen/year and recurring profit of 15 billion yen/year, while seeking to win a nomination as one of the hundred blue chip automotive component manufacturers around the world in the Automotive News Top 100 ranked by Automotive News. We will strive to grow as a company that will achieve its aspirations in business and establish our corporate brand by offering existing products and services during the period under the 2016 Medium-Term Management Plan while remaining focused on providing customers with new products.

4. Initiatives under the 2016 Medium-Term Management Plan

The Company will remain focused on taking steps to enhance its operating foundation and earnings capability in the period from FY2016 through FY2018, aiming to achieve its vision in ten years, which will lead to growth in sales in and after FY2019, marking a significant leap forward in business for the future.

(1) A shift toward in-house production and automated operations

The Company will seek to enhance its competitive advantage by promoting efforts to cut production costs and "blackbox" its proprietary technologies with extensive automated operations, while implementing a shift toward the in-house production of major component products with the help of advanced technologies.

(2) Technological development

The Company aims to achieve cost reductions by developing and introducing new production technologies while promoting efforts to ensure stable product quality in production facilities worldwide. We will remain focused on developing new products and the related technologies ahead of launching the next-generation door latches, providing products and services aimed at offering new value to our customers.

(3) Improvement in profitability for domestic operations

The Company aims to achieve a recovery in domestic sales, reflecting the growth in sales of products for mini vehicles. As part of this initiative, we will bring part of the overseas production facilities back home, seeking to promote "local production for local consumption."

At the same time, we will take steps to achieve sales and profits on the domestic front by promoting efforts to enhance production efficiencies and automated operations, and by reorganizing supply chains in Japan.

(4) Self-contained supply system within geographical regions
A manufacturing plant established in Mexico in 2012 (Mitsui Kinzoku ACT Mexicana S.A. de C.V.) will be positioned as a pivotal business hub in an attempt to raise the local procurement ratio in the Americas. This initiative aims to cut local distribution costs and minimize trade duties as well as currency fluctuation risks associated with trade transactions among business hubs in different countries by allowing active trade in products to occur within the region with a higher local procurement ratio in each region in addition to the expected improvement in profitability for the domestic operations mentioned above.

The initiative to establish a self-contained supply system within a geographical region will allow the Company to respond very quickly to market developments by accommodating the business requirements of local customers.
